Interventional Radiology

Interventional radiology uses  imaging technology such as  ultrasounds, CT Scans and X-ray fluoroscopy to  precisely target various treatments. It is minimally invasive and an  alternative procedure to laparoscopic or more traditional  surgery. The physician  in these procedures is guided by imaging technology  and uses catheter tubes and wires to navigate around the body to treat  many conditions including:

  • Blocked arteries or veins
  • Bleeding of arteries  or veins
  • Aneurysms
  • Blood clots
  • Dilated (varicose) veins
  • Tumors
  • Kidney and gall stones
  • Uterine fibroids

Uterine Fibroid Embolization can be an alternative to hysterectomy for fibroid treatment.

Interventional radiologists  are educated  in radiology and interventional therapy and they are  rare specialists  in medicine.
Dr. John Hamide is the Interventional Radiologist practicing at St. Bernard Parish Hospital.  His  specialties include:  internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, radiology and vascular and interventional radiology.
